Outreach
City of Springfield
Trinity Lutheran Church is committed to reaching out to and serving the city of Springfield and its surrounding communities. Our congregation participates in and supports a number of activities to assist our community at large, including:
Trinity Lutheran School
Since 1860, Trinity Lutheran Church has supported and sustained a Lutheran grade school with the purpose of sharing Jesus with the children of Springfield. The ministry of the school was expanded in 2006 with the addition of the preschool. Trinity Lutheran School and Preschool continue to offer a Christ-centered and academically strong education for our students.
Food Pantry Ministry
Every month, the Food Pantry Ministry dedicates a weekend to collecting items for the local food pantry. If you’re interested in placing your name on the food pantry reminder email list, please email foodpantry@trinity-lutheran.com.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a free event at our school campus for children 3 years old through 6th grade. Trinity’s VBS takes place in the evening and includes songs, crafts, snacks, Bible stories and games all centered around teaching your child about God’s great love for them.
Contact Ministries
Trinity Lutheran Church provides financial support to Contact Ministries, a local organization that serves the greater Springfield community by providing food, shelter, clothing, financial assistance, referrals, and life skills education & training through Christ’s love and compassion.
Helping Hands Homeless Shelter
Part of the mission of Trinity’s Community Outreach Team is to provide occasional meals for the Helping Hands Homeless Shelter in Springfield. The team relies on volunteers to help prepare and deliver these meals.
Trunk or Treat
This free, indoor trick or treating event allows community members and their kids to collect candy and other treats in a well-lit, warm and friendly environment. Stop by our Parish Hall at the school campus for safe and fun trick or treating on October 31st.
Other Outreach Efforts of our Members
In addition to the outreach programs sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church, members of our congregation seek to serve Christ in Springfield and the surrounding community by volunteering with various organizations such as: Wooden It Be Lovely, Habitat for Humanity, Capital Area Concert Band, Friend-in-Deed, and many others.
Nation & World
In addition to the many ways we reach out to our local communities, Trinity Lutheran Church also participates in many service initiatives at the national and international level.
Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is a nonprofit organization that helps families in the world’s poorest communities build the resilience they need to thrive. Trinity Lutheran Church and School supports LWR through the collection of Personal Care/Hygiene Kits and the World Relief Mission Quilts program.
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML)
Trinity Lutheran Church offers two LWML societies, The Ladies Aid group meets during the day on the second Wednesday of each month. The Women with Mission group meets in the evening on the first Monday of each month. Both groups fully participate in LWML at district and national levels and support the missions of LWML through their mite contributions. These contributions support the mission grants of the LWML.
Supporting College Students and Seminarians
Through donations made to Trinity’s Synodical School Scholarship Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church provides financial support to congregation members who are currently attending LCMS colleges and seminaries. The church and school communities also support seminarians through monetary and gift card donations collected to support the Concordia Seminary Food Bank.
